Tiaan Gericke joins Profica’s growing Cape Town team

Profica Project Manager Tiaan Gericke has moved from Profica head office in Joburg to join Profica’s growing Cape Town team, bringing his wealth of hospitality experience gained in Mauritius, Maldives and SA to the team. Profica has been present in Cape Town since 2006, with the team led by Donia Kamstra, and we look forward to further growing our portfolio in the region. Here are a few more insights from Tiaan.

Please tell us about your career in the property industry so far, and the experience you’ve gained with Profica?

I have mainly worked on hospitality and high-end residential projects in the last couple of years in Mauritius, Maldives and South Africa. With Profica, I have gained experience on the design development of high-rise hotels as well as the renovation of existing hotels.

What does your new role at Profica entail, and why the move to Cape Town?

Projects have picked up in the Western Cape in the last year, hence the requirement for an additional Project Manager. The intention is to grow the Profica portfolio in the Western Cape.

What are the major projects Profica has completed in the Cape, and what will you be involved with?

Profica has been active in the Western Cape since 2006, when the team started the design process for the 30,000m2 Gugulethu Square shopping centre which was completed in 2009.  This project was a nominee for the 2010 SAPOA Innovative Excellence Project Awards. Profica then project managed the construction of a 20 000sqm new development at the Northpoint Industrial Park in Brackenfell.  The team has since added offices for Amazon, various Life Healthcare projects, and fit-outs for Ocean Network Express (O.N.E) and Oracle to our portfolio.

I am currently involved with a number of retail, commercial and residential projects, including the Commercial Lifestyle Centre upgrade and Estate Wide Portfolio of projects on a world class estate and wine farm.

Can you tell us about how the industry is developing in Cape Town?

We are seeing an increase in the appetite for developments. I believe developers are a little less risk-averse in the Western Cape compared to other regions.

What aspects of project management do you most enjoy?

It’s very satisfying when a project becomes feasible and moves into construction.

What do you enjoy doing, outside of work?

I’m very active and enjoy trail-running, kitesurfing and travelling.

What surprising thing about you would we not find on your LinkedIn Profile?

I have lived in 8 different cities or towns in the past 8 years!
